Meet the Artist
"Painting for Melissa is the silence of thought and the music of sight." After two decades at the easel, her subjects range from birds and landscapes to loose, colourful abstracts.
About
Melissa Wallace has been painting for more than two decades, working in acrylic across a wide range of subjects — native birds, wide Taupō landscapes, and freer, colour-led abstracts. For Melissa, painting is "the silence of thought and the music of sight": a way of working through an image slowly, layer by layer, until the mood of a place or a creature comes through. She works from her home studio at Manuka Gallery in Acacia Bay, and her recent pieces move between sweeping views of the mountains and lake and bold, large-scale ocean studies.
